(Click Here) The Acadiana Area Human Services District (AAHSD) was created by the Louisiana State Legislature under the provisions of the Louisiana revised statutes (LSA-RS): R.S. 373 to provide administration, management, and operation of behavioral health (addictive disorders and mental health) and developmental disabilities services to the residents of Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermilion parishes.(Click Here) The Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities (OCDD) serves as the Single Point of Entry (SPOE) into the developmental disabilities services system and oversees public and private residential services and other services for people with developmental disabilities.(Click Here) EarlySteps provides services to families with infants and toddlers aged birth to three years (36 months) who have a medical condition likely to result in a developmental delay, or who have developmental delays.(Click Here) Act 421 of the 2019 Regular Legislative Session authorized the Louisiana Department of Health to create a TEFRA program that allows certain children who have a disability to receive Medicaid coverage, even if their parents earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid. (Click Here) Resources for Parents of students in the public school system with Disabilities. (Click Here) Individualized Education Program (IEP) Some students with disabilities ages 3-21 may require special education and related services to meet their unique needs and to support them in attaining both their short and long term educational goals. These services are governed by federal legislation via the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004).
